Imam Muhammad ibn Sulayman at-Tamimi said,

The name of al-Quran

Allah ta'ala himself gave the name of this religion to Islam. Allah says,

إن الدين عند الله الإسلام

Indeed, religion is acceptable to God, only Islam. (Qur'an, Ali Imran: 19)

God also gave the name of the followers of Islam with the Muslims. Allah says,

وما جعل عليكم في الدين من حرج ملة أبيكم إبراهيم هو سماكم المسلمين من قبل وفي هذا ليكون الرسول شهيدا عليكم وتكونوا شهداء على الناس

He (Allah) by no difficulties on you in religion. Follow the religion of Abraham your parents. He (Allah) have named you all the Muslims of the past, and (so did) in the al-Quran, so that the Messenger a witness over you and so that you may all be witness to all men .. (QS. Al-Hajj: 78)

Behind the Name of Islam

All streams and all religions have a name. And if we look, almost all of the names of religion and stream it back to a particular figure or group. As Christian, named Nassara nation, Jews were taken from the names of the tribes Yahudza, Buddhism derived from the Buddhist, and so on.

In contrast to Islam. This name is not returned to the name of a figure or a particular character or a particular tribe. Because this name shows the contents of teaching. There are two main Islam

By looking at the definition of Islam, which in essence is to surrender and subject to all the rules of Allah, the scholars of Islam split into two,

First, Islam in the general sense

The meaning of Islam in the general sense is all the teachings of the prophets, which essentially mentauhidkan God and follow the rules of law applicable at the time.

Imam Ibn Uthaymeen explained,

الإسلام بالمعنى العام: هو التعبد لله بما شرع منذ أن أرسل الله الرسل إلى أن تقوم الساعة

Second, Islam in the special sense

Islam in a certain sense is the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam. His Shari'a Shari'a removes previously opposed to it.

Imam Ibn Uthaymeen said,

والإسلام بالمعنى الخاص بعد بعثة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يختص بما بعث به محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم لأن ما بعث به النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم نسخ جميع الأديان السابقة فصار من أتبعه مسلما ومن خالفه ليس بمسلم

Islam is Islam with special meaning after the coming of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa Sallam. Special to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam. Because Shari'ah Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa Sallam delete all previous religions. So that his followers are people of Islam while deviating from the teachings of his, not the people of Islam. Followers of previous prophets, they are Muslims when their prophet law still applies. When the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam sent, their law does not apply, so that they can be called Muslims if it follows the law of Muhammad sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam.

For example, when there are Christian people who follow the teachings of Jesus physically and mentally.
